CAPTURING EMOTIONAL MOMENTS VIEWERS CAN FEEL
At our workshops, everything we discuss and practice is right there in front of us. As students scan a scene, they quickly learn that photography is about making choices and visually editing a scene prior to pressing the shutter. Preliminary shots are then taken as a starting point. Composition and lighting take the stage as students ‘work the scene’ to build emotion and draw viewers into the image. Each student critiques their image(s) as they move, constantly adjusting and reshooting. The amazing thing is watching how their minds work through this process and how their group members respond. Questions often result in mentor demonstration and suggestions. This is the power of immediate feedback in ‘BUILDING’ images…

THE DESERT BOTANICAL GARDEN EXPERIENCE
This 24 acre BOTANICAL MUSEUM features over 50,000 plants representing more than 4,000 desert species in five diverse desert habitats. From the moment you cross the bridge and enter the Garden, you are introduced to a photo-rich environment with a distinctive day/night  personality. Glass sculpture above by world renown artist, Dale Chihuly…

Whether tourists, locals or volunteers, everyone is glad to be there. And they all carry cameras…. the VIBE IS CONTAGIOUS.

CAPTURING EMOTIONAL MOMENTS VIEWERS CAN FEEL
‘Shooting With A Purpose’ at the Botanical Garden is a highly personalized experience. Walking the paths and crossing over footbridges visually connect students to the diversity of this environment. Shadow textures from early morning light test student’s observation skills as they frame scenes. Given that environment, students continue to find diversity through Details visitors rarely see. Workshop ‘Easter eggs’…

At dusk, paths become contrasting pools of light and opportunity. Indigenous Arizona plant species are rendered as silhouettes or staged actors.  Either way, the emotion between early morning and early evening creates a theater for students to enjoy.

As students move through the garden, they realize the special nature of this experience, surrounded by Arizona history.  Many will return as members and bring their smartphone cameras with them. Unforgettable…
